Mission
The Army National Guard Sustainment Training Center (ARNG-STC) provides collective technical and tactical sustainment unit training and evaluations for units supporting unified land operations. Field Maintenance, Multi-functional Logistics, and Medical training is focused at section, platoon, and company level collective training using the latest generation of equipment, current doctrine, and logistics enabler systems that support the current army structure. The STC incorporates multiple Warfighting functional concepts along with the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) to provide realistic, multi-echelon sustainment training culminating with objective, comprehensive evaluations of key collective tasks (KCTs) supporting the specified Combined Arms Training Strategy. The schoolhouse also provides individual technical maintenance instruction for technicians.
Our History
Most people may know that the National Maintenance Training Center (NMTC) has been offering first-class training for both maintenance units and maintenance technicians for quite some time but few know how the center actually evolved to what it is today.
In 1991, the Equipment Maintenance Center CONUS (EMC-C) was established as an ARNG Training Center with a mission to train, at the technical collective level General Support Maintenance Companies in the Army. The EMC-C began training General Support (GS) Maintenance Companies in 1992 as a solution to a huge problem identified by a General Accounting Office report, there were over 70 maintenance companies at the time in the force structure. In 1994 the EMC-C also began training Direct Support (DS) Maintenance Units, Divisional and Non-Divisional, augmented with a cadre from the active army.
In June of 1999, the EMC-C was renamed the National Maintenance Training Center (NMTC) to better reflect the on-going mission of collective maintenance training to include tactical recovery training and Maintenance Support Training. In this same year, the NMTC developed a training package for Headquarters elements of Maintenance battalions, addressing critical needs of staff sections of the Maintenance Battalions. In 1997 the NMTC created the Supply Support Activity (SSA) as the logistics structure started to change in the GS maintenance companies and the Direct Support Maintenance Companies. The SSA offered robust parts and supply personnel training and began limited quartermaster training.
The next evolutionary step of the NMTC occurred in late 2005 as the Center transitioned to two levels of maintenance. In 2007, the ARNG G-4 and G-3 met at the center and agreed that the NMTC also train Brigade Support Battalions and Corps Sustainment Support Battalions because other training activity in the Army was doing so. Since the NMTC was already training nearly 60% of a Support Battalion Organization it seemed like a natural progression to train full up Battalions.
By the close of 2008, the NMTC had incorporated Battalion Staff Training and training for the Distribution Companies into the center’s core training opportunities. By providing MDMP training and a digital exercise for the staff, logistics training for the Supply Support Activity (SSA), and collective training for the Distribution Companies, the Center was well on its way to its current genesis.
In August of 2013 the NMTC was, once again, renamed. The current training of both the Battalion Staff and Distribution Companies, in addition to the maintenance pieces, made it obvious that the Center did more than purely maintenance training. With emerging capability to provide collective training for medical companies as well as the plan for developing Food Service training, the center has grown to a one-stop shop for all sustainment training needs. The commander sought a name that would best reflect what the center actually does. The Sustainment Training Center (STC) will continue to provide high caliber, professional training as it continues its evolution to best support the training needs of sustainment units and the Warfighter.

Medical Training
The Sustainment Training Center (STC) recently added Brigade Support Medical Company (BSMC) training allowing an entire Brigade Support
Battalion to work in unison during their two week annual training. The STC staff will work with the Commander to personalize the medical
training based on the assessment of their unit. During week 1 of annual training (AT) the focus will be on individual tasks for each specific
MOS within the BSMC. While the 68Ws go through the 48- hour sustainment training at the Medical Simulation Training Center (MSTC) in
accordance with TC 8-800, the remaining medical personnel perform individual tasks at a civilian medical treatment facility (MTF); working
with direct patient contact in departments related to their respective MOS/AOCs. The medical unit leadership can participate in the
Battalion Staff Training and the Military Decision Making Process seminar to learn their roles as leaders.
During the 2nd week of AT the entire BSMC will re-unite on Camp Dodge and function in a fixed role II MTF complete with all BSMC organic
equipment. The focus of this 2nd week will be on collective tasks set forth by the Commanders Mission Essential Task List and Key Collective
Tasks. The training evaluation will encompass the spectrum of point of injury and role I Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3) to evacuation
and stabilization at the Role II MTF. The Soldiers will perform hands-on medical training with the use of very realistic, performance sensitive
manikins capable of reacting to the medical treatment being performed. The unit will also utilize the Medical Communications for Combat
Casualty Care (MC4) system during the exercise to track patients and order procedures in the role II facility. The medical training will
be incorporated into a BSB collective training Field Training Exercise with emphasis placed on both technical and tactical skills. Subject
matter experts (SMEs) at the STC will evaluate the training in accordance with the Training and Evaluation Outline and applicable Combined
Arms Training Strategy found in the Army Training Network.

Field Feeding
Sustainment Training Center Field Feeding (STC FF) section provides a unique opportunity to obtain a civilian food safety ServSafe Manager certification, real tactical missions, increased equipment operational readiness, and the ability to better support the warfighter within Large Scale Combat Operations (LSCO). Diverse methods dive deep into the technical manuals and regulations to emphasize the importance of completing tasked missions to standard. Equipment familiarization and troubleshooting, common issues at STC FF are enacted as a paramount function of 92G’s most basic MOS qualified skills to accomplish any mission set forth.
During week 1 at STC the 92G’s will dive deep into food safety IAW TB MED 530, receive instruction in, and test for qualification to become a ServSafe Manager. 92G’s will then move into equipment specific training and field feeding mission operations. In depth training includes a Modular Burner Unit V3 class that walks through the work packages per the TM to understand advanced servicing and repairs. 92G’s will also start integration into the Forward Support Company (FSC) convoy operations and practice essential functions of Field Feeding Operations. This integration into convoy movement emphasizes proper radio etiquette, convoy movement while cooking on the go in the Assault Kitchen, and the ability to establish a field feeding site.
During week 2 the 92G’s will conduct 3 externally evaluated missions into the field cooking in 2 locations that will test the training and organization of the Field Feeding Team’s Mission Essential Tasks (MET).
